There are a scant amount of details about the dark electronic project Magic Sword. What we know is that the Boise duo, who wear evil fencing masks and capes during live performances, have previously contributed to the Hotline Miami 2 soundtrack and released their debut album, Volume 1, in January of this year. With a sonic aesthetic that sounds like if John Carpenter had collaborated with Daft Punk on the TRON: Legacy soundtrack, their output is compelling, gothic dance music that is perfect for a sacreligious rave in catacombs.
For the brand new video for their track, “The Sword of Truth”, the electronic duo tapped comic illustrator and visual artist, Shay Plummer, who has worked with DC, Marvel, and Dark Horse, among many others, to illustrate an otherworldly quest for the song’s titular sword. In an effort to vanquish a looming, overwhelming darkness, both members of Magic Sword must use the sword to root out the evil presence at its source. Everything about the panels in this video, from their severe angles to their emphatically dark coloration, perfectly augments the epic, yet disquieting feel of the music.
In true comic book fashion, we are left with a cliffhanger. How will the Sword Of Truth be used? Who is the evil aggressor? All we can do for now is listen to the music and take some wild guesses.
