If you’re looking to take a load off your day, Canadian artist City and Colour–aka Dallas Green–will provide a calming, wholesome experience, equivalent to sitting amongst nature and knowing that you’re loved.
The accompanying video features Green performing a sweeping, soft acoustic solo version of the first single off the upcoming album If I Should Go Before You, titled “Lover Come Back”. The video was shot by Guitar Center as part of their Singer Songwriter 5 Competition.
The song is achingly beautiful, with lyrics that make me want to melt. “I am warm enough yet I still shiver, I am fed but I still starve, you know me I am the great misgiver, always waiting for the clouds to part.” I feel very present and connected when listening to this song, and it’s a pleasure to sit so intimately with Green that I experience every haunting inflection.
If I Should Go Before You is Green joined by an amazing band, including Jack Lawrence (The Raconteurs, Dead Weather) on bass and Dante Schwebel (Spanish Gold, Dan Auerbach) on guitar. The album will be released worldwide on October 9, so the wait isn’t long! And if you actually can’t wait, have no fear. You can pre-order the album here.
