A city on the verge of exploding. Superpowered gangs stalking the streets. A power vacuum that desperately needs to be filled.
These are but a few of the ramifications arising from the death of Retro Girl, which will reverberate across the second season of Powers. Based on the comic book by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, the PlayStation Network original series is looking to step up its game considerably in season two by bringing in new showrunner Remi Aubuchon (Falling Skies) and following a fan favorite story arc.
Season two will delve deep into the “Who Killed Retro Girl?” storyline that kicked off the comics back in 2000. As you might surmise from the title, Retro Girl (Michelle Forbes) was the victim of a murder most foul, and it’s up to Christian Walker (Sharlto Copley), Deena Pilgrim (Susan Heyward), and the rest of the Powers Division to solve the mystery of her death. And you can bet your bottom dollar that the death of the world’s most famous superhero is going to raise a whole host of questions… and we may not like the answers.
Powers’ second season brings with it a plethora of faces, both familiar and new, including returning stars like Copley, Heyward, Olesya Rulin and newcomers like Tricia Helfer, Wil Wheaton. Series co-creator Brian Michael Bendis has referred to season two’s all-star cast as “the Ocean’s 11 of genre actors,” which sounds way up my alley. But don’t take my word for itâsee for yourself in our exclusive photo gallery below that offers you a superheroic sneak peek at season two, including character portraits and photos from the upcoming season.
Powers season two premieres later this year.
