The Mighty Morphin Power Rangers movie is still a year away, but the team has already been reborn as comic book superstars at Boom! Studios. While none of the original Power Rangers has ever headlined his or her own comic book before, thatâs about to change.
Boom! Studios has announced its first Power Rangers spinoff comic, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Pink, a new six-issue miniseries that will throw the spotlight on Kimberly Hart, the first Pink Ranger in the long-running franchise. To write the series, Boom! has paired up Batgirl and Gotham Academy writer Brenden Fletcher with up-and-coming comic scribe Kelly Thompson, whose past credits include the Jem and the Holograms comic and Captain Marvel and the Carol Corps. Thompson is also slated to write the next arc of Marvelâs A-Force, the female Avengers team.
Daniele Di Nicuolo (Mirror’s Edge: Exordium) will be the artist of Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Pink, which will feature a very striking cover by Elsa Charretier.
The alternate incentive cover by Marguerite Sauvage features Kimberly unmasked with the other Rangers behind her.
Why is the Pink Ranger suddenly getting her own series? Itâs simple: Mighty Morphin Power Rangers # 0 and # 1 debuted to orders of over 100,000 copies, which suggests that thereâs a pent up demand for Power Rangers comics. That probably means that the Green and Red Rangers will also get their own titles in the near future. But that doesnât rule out the Black, Yellow, and Blue Rangers also headlining their own adventures as well.
Story details about Mighty Morphin Power Rangers: Pink have not yet been disclosed, but the first issue will be released in May.
