Poster and Trailer for BATKID BEGINS Elicits All the Feels

There’s very few things in this world that can make me tear up faster than witnessing a sea of people cheering loudly for an underdog, especially if it’s a little kid. It stirs something deep inside to see that kind of community growing out of support for a single person. If that little kid is also fighting an uphill battle against a horrible disease, the feels grow even more. If that kid is also Batkid and he has the support of the entire city of San Francisco, every actor to have ever played the Dark Knight, the police, firefighters, television stations, and transit authority, AND the President of the United States, then forget it, folks, I’m a blubbering mass of emotion and I don’t mind tellin’ ya.

The trailer for the documentary film Batkid Begins was released Thursday, along with a poster that you can see below. Even in this brief three-minute clip it starts the mechanisms for emotional overload.

For the uninitiated, Batkid is the internet phenomenon that grew out of a Make-a-Wish Foundation plan to give a young Leukemia patient the opportunity to be the real, honest-go-goodness Batman, a hero he considered the best of all of them. And, by Gotham, that’s exactly what they did, getting the total support of just about everyone involved in the city and government of San Francisco to turn the City by the Bay for a whole day into a place for Batkid to patrol, stopping villains like the Riddler, the Penguin, and others in the process. He even got to drive a version of the Batmobile!

The movie, which I’m positive will need to hand out complimentary tissue packets, follows the entire saga of making this little boy’s dreams come true and explores why it became such a global phenomenon. (I think I know.) It’ll be in select cities beginning June 26th and presumably available on various home entertainment formats thereafter.
