    For those of us nursing a clapped-out POS, or who don’t get to turn it over every few hours when it’s below freezing, leaving the heater on for a remote-starter is a recipe for killing a borderline battery. Really seriously cold places need engine block warmers(as long as you have the extra power to run it).

    My brother got t-boned by a street racer and was put in a coma and long rehab for traumatic brain injury. I was at the t-boner’s sentencing (and the other street racer’s), but perhaps since they were juveniles, neither one got a permanent ban on driving. I’d have to do some deep legal research to figure out what happens to adults.

    Anti-libertarians keep saying “driving is a privilege, not a right” ad nauseam, but if that were true, and I was the judge, I could have told the t-boner “You almost killed a man. If the DA had charged you as an adult with felony reckless driving, etc. I’d be sentencing you to 1 year in prison without possibility of parole, with 80 years probation upon release, and wage garnishment until you pay back your victim’s medical expenses, lost wages, and his family’s losses as well. But since you were not, I’m going to sentence you as follows 1) You are to enjoy San Diego’s ridiculous public transit system and walking for the rest of your life in California (and all other States that respect CA’s driving records), Mr. Wilder. 2) …”
