Today is a big day in news about Pokkén Tournament, the upcoming Pokémon fighting game for Wii U.
The game was announced last summer with a vague release date of Spring 2016, but this morning, a specific release date was confirmed: You can get your hands on the game on March 18. It’s not entirely clear if that release date applies to just North America or to all territories, but regardless, it will be ours soon.
We also got more information about Pokkén Tournament‘s different game modes today. There will be a standard “Single Battle” mode, which includes three difficulty levels. If you want to play with a buddy IRL, there is also a local battle option, with one playing using the GamePad and the other a standard Wii U-compatible controller. This mode limits the FPS to 30, but full 60 FPS capabilities can be restored be connecting two Wii U consoles with a LAN cable.
There will also be two different options for online battling. In Friendly Matches, you can play against anybody in the world, including people on your Friends List and anybody whose Battle Code you have. Ranked Matches work differently: The mode is more competitive and will have you fighting against other players for rank points, determined by your performance in the battle.
Also, in case you missed the news from yesterday, three new playable Pokémon were confirmed for the game, so find out what those are here, and let us know in the comments who you NEED to be in Pokkén Tournament.
