2016’s Game of the Year is coming early. Adult Swim Games dropped the news on Twitter today that a new Pokémon-style Rick and Morty mobile game is debuting on Thursday, January 14 for mobile devices. Yup, that’s not too long from now. Attached to said tweet was the clip posted below.
Clearly the battle sequences are very much inspired by the classic Pokémon games. It was later confirmed to be called Pocket Mortys, and will be completely free to download. We don’t know much else at the moment, but Chris Johnston, a senior producer at the studio, promised that it will be a substantial experience, unlike previous titles using the license of the popular show.
The name Pocket Mortys pays homage to the old Pokémon moniker, Pocket Monsters. There’s definitely a lot of potential here for a fun adventure, since the show itself comprises of Rick and Morty traveling to different dimensions and getting into a whole lot of trouble.
Part of me is sad that this game won’t be making its way onto the Nintendo 3DS and PlayStation Vita (as of right now). Either way, it’s cool to watch Adult Swim delve into the video game realm. The initiative has already produced a couple of interesting games, but I can imagine that more intricate experiences will see the light of day as time passes.
Will you be downloading this game? What other gameplay mechanics do you want to be implemented into this title? Let us know in the comments below.
