POKÉMON Shared Its New Super Bowl Commercial, And It’s Pretty Epic

The NFL’s Conference Championship games decided last night that the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos are headed to Super Bowl 50 in San Francisco on February 7. Much of the hubbub of the NFL’s penultimate game is the fanfare surrounding the event itself, from the halftime performance to the TV commercials aired during the game. One of the ads that will aired during broadcast of the game has been shared early, and it will please Pokémon trainers everywhere.

Yes, Pokémon has its very first Super Bowl commercial this year, in celebration of the franchise’s 20th anniversary. The ad shows the global and large scale by which the RPG games have taken over the world, with intense scenes from across the planet that culminate in a Pokémon trainer in a real-life Pokémon gym preparing for an epic battle. Aside from the shiny (in the traditional sense of the word, not the Pokémon sense), hairy and somewhat creepy Pikachu near the end, the commercial is a winner.

The Pokémon Company sure does have a lot to celebrate this year: a new legendary Pokémon, a Build-A-Bear Pikachu doll, the upcoming Wii U release of fighting game Pokkén Tournament, a few new Pokémon-themed members of the Nintendo 3DS family of consoles, and a re-release of the first generation of Pokémon Trading Card Game cards.

2016 is shaping up to be a big year for a legendary gaming franchise, so let us know in the comments what parts of the celebration you’re looking forward to the most, and what you think of this new ad for the big game.
