PlayStation Celebrates 20 Years With Classic Themed PlayStation 4

Heads up: PlayStation fans should totally listen to this, before proceeding forward. Done? Now didn’t that make you feel warm on the inside?

Today marks 20 years of PlayStation consoles in homes around the world, and to salute the two decades of triangles, circles, Xs, and squares, Sony Computer Entertainment just unveiled a brand new 20th anniversary edition PlayStation 4. The thing is gorgeous, kawaii, and every other version of the word attractive that there is. My immediate reaction upon seeing it was:

The limited edition PS4 is colored “original grey” as a nod to the OG PlayStation, and there are only 12,300 of these beauties in existence globally. Sid Shuman of the PlayStation Blog is on hand to give us the first official unboxing:

Somewhere in the world, Antonio Banderas is smiling. There will be more details revealed on how to obtain one of the 12,300 available 20th anniversary PS4s during the opening keynote at the PlayStation Experience this weekend. Also worth noting: there’s a new 20th anniversary PS4 dynamic theme that makes the original PlayStation startup sound when you login on your console. Definitely worth a download for any nostalgic souls that want to relive the beginning of the PlayStation era. Check out the theme in action right below:

Playing Wipeout, Jumping Flash, and Twisted Metal. The first two are still, in my opinion, two of the most innovative and original titles for the OP.

Best memories? Spending hours playing MechWarrior 2. Still remember the names of all the mechs, too. They ought to re-release that game.

  3. Nothing will beat the memory of opening this on Christmas morning for me at just 5 years old. I already had a Sega Genesis and loved Sonic, but this system changed everything my little mind knew about gaming. I’ve been with Sony ever since, and as sweet as this grey PS4 is, I’m saving up for the 25th anniversary.

to be fair, these are probably gonna sale for double the price of regular PS4’s and there’s no guarantee you’ll be able to score one before they sell out.
