Gas up your 3D Maneuver Gear because KOEI just dropped more details on their upcoming Attack on Titan game at Tokyo Game Show, and posted snippets of their presentation on Facebook. The first set of playable characters and a walkthrough of the game’s tutorial mode have now gone public, increasing many’s optimism on how epic this game is going to turn out.
Accompanying the unveiling of playable characters was a live demonstration of the game’s training mode (viewable here). The gameplay shows much promise, with movements appearing to be intuitive and easy to navigate. The visuals are clean and vibrant, looking as if they’re leaping straight off of the pages of the manga. There’s also a targeting system that should make focusing attacks towards a certain area accessible and hassle-free. It looks like a lot of the game’s combat will be centered around players maneuvering around titans until the right opportunity comes to go in for the infamous nape-of-the-neck strike, as seen here.
Maybe Omega Force might actually pull this off, and deliver the Attack on Titan experience that we’ve been longing for. Initially, I was a bit apprehensive about this title, given that I’m a huge fan of the anime series who’s afraid of people abusing the property, and that Omega Force has a track record for making games that get ridiculously repetitive. But as long as they keep going in the same stylistic direction and they find ways to vary the gameplay, I may be eating crow when this game hits store shelves.
