TV themes are a rare commodity in 2015. Usually it’s just a brief musical beat with a show’s graphic, then the cast credits are presented in the first scene. Luckily, the people over at HBO know a thing or two about tradition, and, with Game of Thrones, is the home to one of the most well-known themes of the modern TV era.
Now the great people at Player Piano have decided to put their own twist on this already great theme. We posted our love for their Doctor Who theme a few months ago, and I will be the first to tell you that they have done it again with this beautiful arrangement.
Touring the entire land of Westeros, they depict all of the important players of the show, from Daenerys Targaryen in the desert, to Jon Snow and Ygritte on the outskirts of the Wall, to Tyrion Lannister in on of his many frequented brothels.
What I liked about the video was not only did they depict the characters correctly (Jon Snow is actually pretty spot-on), but they made sure the piano matched the environment they were placed in. It didn’t look like it was just dropped in. This is also the first version of the theme that put a voice to it. No lyrics, of course, but it definitely added to the beauty of the piece.
The season finale of Game of Thrones airs Sunday at 9pm ET on HBO.
