We’ve previously seen the build-up to our friends Gabriel Diani and Etta Devine’s next movie project, Diani and Devine Meet the Apocalypse. And we told you that they’d be looking to raise money via Kickstarter to get this thing done. Well, it’s here. The Kickstarter is now open. Wait, you wanna see a little video about the movie? Here:
Think of the old Hope and Crosby Road pictures, or Abbott and Costello, only modern and twisted and involving the End of Days. Who’s in it? Barry Bostwick, Harry Groener, Armin Shimerman, Kitty Swink, Dawn Didawick, Jocelyn Towns, our own Janet Varney, our own Cole Stratton… and Gabe and Etta, of course.
DESCRIPTION TIME!:
Are you prepared for the End of Civilization? Comedy team Diani & Devine are not. Like, not at all. So when all power and communication systems mysteriously shut off, the unprepared couple pack up their things and hit the road in search of a safe haven to wait out the possible extinction event. Accompanied by their trusty dog Watson and their miserable cat Mrs. Peel, the duo must struggle against the mundane realities of the collapse of civilization while retaining their decency and rationality as the rest of humanity starts getting really, really weird.
This isn’t their first time around the block, either. They made The Selling, a movie that brought horror to the real estate business, and did very well. You’ve heard them on the Nerdist Podcast, the podcast’s Stand-Up Cluster 2, and/or Pop My Culture. And you’ll recall that they made The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (Robotic Edition). This one has a ton of promise, but they need your help.
They’re trying to raise $100,000. That’s tiny in movie terms, but a lot of money in general. Why $100,000? Half will go to pre-production and production, $30,000 to post-production and deliverables, ten grand for the Kickstarter premiums, and $10,000 goes to Kickstarter itself and Amazon. The goal is to raise the money by November 23rd, and the premiums range for MP3s of the soundtrack for a buck to an HD digital download of The Selling for five bucks, the HD digital download of D&DMTA (let’s abbreviate, shall we?) AND The Selling AND the soundtrack — that’s a pretty good deal! — for fifteen dollars, and so on, through credits and posters and t-shirts to stuff I’ve never seen in a Kickstarter before — you can get Armin Shimerman’s custom DVD-style commentaries on two of his favorite Deep Space 9 episodes that you can listen to while you watch the shows on DVD, or the same from Barry Bostwick for Megaforce. You can even Skype with Armin, Barry, or Janet Varney. And for ten grand, you’re the Executive Producer.
