Pickstarter: CA7CH Lightbox Might Be the Next GoPro

Love your GoPro but just don’t feel like it’s wearable enough? Catch Motion might have a solution for you with CA7CH Lightbox.

Catch Motion is boasting that the live-streaming camera – which can capture up to 1100 stills or 30 minutes of video – was designed with smart phones in mind. The Bluetooth-enabled device would stream content directly to the CA7CH app, which will allow users to edit, join, and share their videos via social networks. They also plan to release the app’s API for use by other developers with CA7CH apps in mind.

From the campaign page:

“What began as a simple conversation about building a camera fit for our times sparked a curiosity among three friends to re-imagine how we capture and share our daily experiences. We created CA7CH to make the experience of ‘catching’ and sharing life’s moments easy, spontaneous and fun. After a year of hard work, Lightbox was born, a camera that would allow people to see life in a new way.”

Catch Motion is promising HD-quality video and features for their camera, and that it will be waterproof, to boot. The big advantage I can see it offering over the already super-portable GoPro is its size: Catch Motion is saying that the CA7CH measures 1.5 inches on each side, making it easy to clip on to your clothing and gear, using an included magnet.

I suspect for the more daring types who like to record their mountain biking and extreme sports adventures, Catch Motion might want to consider a more robust strap solution – however, it looks like Catch Motion is making their pitch towards accessibility beyond the GoPro crowd – so expect something that’s a little less conspicuous and a little more wearable than its competitor.

The itty bitty wearable camera is nearing the last two weeks of its Kickstarter campaign having already reached more than double its $80,000 goal. At this time, Catch Motion is promising the first batch of cameras will be delivered in October (although they caution that unexpected circumstances could lead to delays in their 90-day production cycle).
