Capcom revealed the latest in the Ace Attorney game series, Ace Attorney 6, at Tokyo Game Show 2015, but also brought a little bit more news along with them. During their presentation of the new game, which was also available to be demoed on the Nintendo 3DS at the show, Capcom announced they would be premiering an Ace Attorney anime series in April of 2016. Phoenix Wright, Maya Fey and Miles Edgeworth were some of who would make the transition over to the anime series, but fans can also speculate who else from the series’ extensive cast will be making appearances.
The Ace Attorney series of games first appeared back in 2001 and have remained exclusively as handheld-based titles on Nintendo’s Gameboy Advanced, Nintendo DS, and 3DS systems. The titles have since been ported to PC, iOS, and the Nintendo Wii through WiiWare. The games are a mix of click-adventure investigation and court trial simulator as players control Phoenix Wright an “ace” attorney for Fey and Co. Law Offices in episodic investigations and cases. The games also built on several of Phoenix’s colleagues and their relationships before players were able to also play as some of them in subsequent titles.
The series is a major hit in Japan, as well as a well-received title in the States, spawning a few spin-off games, musicals, and even a 2012 film adaptation. Ace Attorney is known for its overly intense, almost soap opera-style take on the world of courtroom procedure, as well as the game’s rather silly art and character style. If anything, this series was always meant to be an anime, its only just now realizing it.
