Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s KILLING EVE Looks Like BBC America’s Next Big Thing

Luke Jennings’ Villanelle novella series has delighted fans for years thanks to the cat and mouse game at its center. Under the tutelage of Fleabag creator/star and Solo droid Phoebe Waller-Bridge, however, it gets kicked up to 11 when it premieres on BBC America on Sunday, April 8 at 8pm. But don’t just take our word for it—look at the new images the network released on Friday at the 2018 Television Critics Association Winter Press Tour!

If you’re missing the rip-roaring fun of Orphan Black, this may be the next best thing.

For those who are unaware, Killing Eve centers on two women—Eve, a bored, whip-smart, pay-grade MI5 security officer whose desk-bound job doesn’t fulfill her fantasies of being a spy, and Villanelle, a mercurial, talented killer who clings to the luxuries her violent job affords her. And it all gets taken to a new level as it subverts the typical tropes found in the action/thriller genre.

But there’s more than just Sandra Oh (Eve) and Jodie Comer (Villanelle) to get excited about. Co-starring alongside the duo are Fiona Shaw (Harry Potter, True Blood), who plays Carolyn, a lead MI6 agent, and Kirby Howell-Baptiste (Downward Dog) as Elena, Eve’s assistant. The cast also includes Kim Bodnia (The Bridge), David Haig (Penny Dreadful), Sean Delaney, and Owen McDonnell (My Mother and Other Strangers).

In Killing Eve, a genius bunch of women behind and in front of the camera transcend the predictable with this funny and heart-stopping twisted cat and mouse thriller,” explained Sarah Barnett, president of BBC America, in a press release. “Killing Eve stands out in a sea of scripted stories as refreshingly entertaining and great fun.”
