Peter Dinklage to Star in a RUMPELSTILTSKIN Movie

As a member of Westeros’ wealthiest family, Tyrion Lannister knows all about the value of gold, and nobody in the Realm is more adept than he is at spinning a bad situation to his advantage. But even though Game of Thrones is coming to an end next year, those are two skills Peter Dinklage will still need in his newest role, as he will play Rumpelstiltskin in a big screen adaptation of the classic fairy tale.

Variety reports Sony is developing a movie about the devious imp made famous by the Brothers Grimm, with Dinklage set to produce and star in the title role. Author Patrick Ness (A Monster Calls) is set to write the film’s script, though no details about the story, and there is no timetable for its release.

The classic (but somewhat twisted) children’s story, which first appeared in print in 1812 in the Brothers Grimm’s Children’s and Household Tales, tells the story of a mischievous creature who offers to help a miller’s daughter by spinning straw into gold after her father misled the king into believing she could do so. However, in exchange for saving her from the king’s wrath, Rumpelstiltskin demands the woman’s firstborn as payment. The trickster is only thwarted when she learns his only weakness: his name.

Deception? Royal intrigue? An evil character trying to steal a child for nefarious reasons? Are we sure Rumpelstiltskin isn’t a fairy tale from Westeros?
