Persona 5 Is Looking Stylish in this New Trailer

While the majority of the game still remains a mystery, Atlus has just released a brand new trailer for for the highly anticipated anime-inspired JRPG Persona 5, and boy does it look snazzy. Both new characters–including a large black cat–and a sliver of gameplay were teased in the video.

So, what hints does this trailer drop? Well, judging by the opening scene, the game will take place this time in a massive city. If you remember Persona 4, you’ll know this is another flavor entirely in comparison to the small town vibe of the PS2/PS Vita games.

While different, the city’s landscape and graphical detail are as stylish as ever. We also get to see our protagonist and his two blonde buddies attend high school, and team up with a strange-looking cat-like mascot that we’re assuming is kind of like a kitty version of Teddy. A peek at one of the dungeons reveals a new platforming element, as well as what looks to be some sort of stealthy cover system.

A translation (courtesy of Siliconera) of Atlus’ official website features a couple of statements from Persona 5 producer and director Katsura Hashino:

“For this game, we’re going with a challenge that fuses together a juvenile school setting that is as large as life, together with a picaresque romance,” Hashino wrote. “In the previous game, we wrote a story that involved having a justice group chase down a bad guy that could easily be feared by just about anyone.”

Hashino continued, “This time, it’s about a group of high school students that are being ‘chased’ by unexpected occurrences due to the justice they believe in. We’re writing [the story] to convey a thrilling everyday life in the shoes of these characters, that are as large as life, in this juvenile school setting.”

It definitely sounds like we are in for a treat with the next entry in the Persona series. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to go watch the trailer a couple more times.

Does this trailer get you pumped for the game? Do you have any theories yet?
