PEE-WEE’S BIG HOLIDAY Gets Netflix Premiere Date and Trailer

Paul Reubens, the multi-Emmy-winning writer and performer behind the beloved character Pee-wee Herman, announced making a new Pee-wee movie with Judd Apatow on the Nerdist Podcast all the way back in October of 2014. Since then, we’ve learned that the film will premiere on Netflix sometime this year, and today we are pleased to inform you that Pee-wee’s Big Holiday will be available for viewing on Netflix on March 18! It will make its world premiere at SXSW, sometime between March 11-20, but that means fans who can’t make the Austin, TX media festival won’t have to wait long to see everybody’s favorite man-boy.

To celebrate it, Netflix has released the above teaser–very brief, but with lots of character. It follows a bit in the footsteps of Pee-wee’s Big Adventure from 1985, which saw Reubens’ red-bow-tie-sporting hero traverse America looking for his missing bike. He still lives in a house with all kinds of cool gadgetry, and he’s still not really ready to be out in the world. But that’s Pee-wee Herman all over, isn’t it? Will he run into something as terrifying as Large Marge? Will he pass those weird giant dinosaurs in the desert? Will he just take pictures of traffic lights? The world wants to know!

The film is co-produced by Reubens and Apatow and was written by Reubens and Paul Rust. In addition to Reubens, the film will star Joe Manganiello, Jessica Pohly, Alia Shawkat, and Stephanie Beatriz.

We’re very excited for the greatness this will be. Personally, having recently re-watched Pee-wee’s Playhouse, I think the character still very much holds up and Reubens’ strange brand of humor will translate nicely to today’s audiences.

Will you watch Pee-wee’s Big Holiday the second it drops on Netflix? Let us know in the comments below!
