Jimmy Fallon is a big fan of Pee-wee Herman, the alter ego of actor/comedian Paul Reubens. He’s so much of a fan that he often impersonates Pee-wee while doing voices for existing movie trailers. It’s a fun thing Mr. Fallon does on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, but last night he had an opportunity few can boast: He actually got Pee-wee Herman himself to redub voices for what has become the most popular trailer for the month: The Avengers: Age of Ultron.
While on the program to promote the release of The Complete Pee-wee’s Playhouse on Blu-ray, Fallon convinced Reubens to do a bit. (Fallon always seems to get celebrities to do these amazing bits. That is really rare talent for sure.) This particular bit was dubbing his own Pee-wee voice into several of the characters in the trailer, including speaking the now-infamous line uttered by Ultron himself, played by James Spader: “There are no strings on me.” Have a gander!
Jimmy’s love and reverence for Reubens is incredibly evident in the rest of the interview where he gushes about having seen Pee-wee’s Big Adventure 180 times and saying how much Reubens was his idol at the Groundlings, though Jimmy was never a Groundling. We then get to hear what we already sort of knew which is that a new Pee-wee movie is in the works with Judd Apatow producing. Muy exciting stuff.
Pee-wee Herman should totally do the trailer narration for his own upcoming movie, and for other movies, and probably for everything in the whole wide world.
