Paul McCartney Rumored to Join PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN 5

Pirates Of The Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales reportedly wrapped filming last July, but according to a new rumor, directors Joachim Rønning and Espen Sandberg recently shot “an extra big set-piece scene” with a very surprising new cast member: Sir Paul McCartney!

The report originated at Deadline, and it claims that this was not a reshoot. Instead, it was simply an added scene, but there are currently no details about McCartney’s character in the film. Nerdist has reached out to Disney but did not hear back by the time of publishing. Paul McCartney’s camp had no comment.

There is a precedent for the Pirates of the Caribbean film series to feature one of the biggest names from rock and roll’s British Invasion. The Rolling Stones’ Keith Richards appeared in At World’s End and On Stranger Tides as Captain Edward Teague, the father of Johnny Depp’s Captain Jack Sparrow. Perhaps McCartney could portray one of Captain Teague’s contemporary rivals. But that’s just speculation.

McCartney is best known as one of the founding Beatles, in addition to his work with his later group, Wings, and for his solo music career. McCartney has contributed songs to several feature films, including the title track for the James Bond film, Live and Let Die. However, McCartney’s acting experience is fairly limited. Most of McCartney’s roles have been fictionalized versions of himself including appearances in 30 Rock and Bojack Horseman as well as alongside the other Beatles in Help! and Yellow Submarine.
