Patton Oswalt Will Be an Agent on Marvel’s AGENTS OF S.H.I.E.L.D.

Following our exclusive spot for Captain America: The Winter Soldier today, there’s even more good stuff coming from the Marvel Universe today, as it was just announced that the one and only Patton Oswalt will be guest starring on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Oswalt has come a long way in his TV roles, from Spence on King of Queens years ago to Justified, The Heart, She Holler, and now guest starring as S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Eric Koenig.

In addition to the mutual excitement that both Marvel/Oswalt fans and Oswalt himself have over this announcement (when asked to guest star, Oswalt replied, “hell, yes”), this might be the natural result of the famous Star Wars rant that Patton pulled off during his citizen filibuster on Parks and Recreation. You might remember (or can familiarize yourself with it here) that Patton suggests Thanos be able to jump between the Marvel Universe and Star Wars Universe through the power of the Infinity Gauntlet.

If it won’t happen through Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., maybe Oswalt can be on Community again, where that sort of thing is the norm.

So, will he be German? Or have an accent? Or be a sleeper for you-know-who? After the big reveal, the whole Marvel works has changed. I’d like to hear his German accent. Really. It needs to happe

While I like Patton Oswalt, I cannot understand what all the buzz is about. It isn’t like RDJ is going to show up in the Iron Man suit.

  3. Art says:

With his comic timing Patton Oswald is able to act drama and melodrama very well. I would like to see him on True Detective.

  4. Earthtoken says:

I can see him doing well in this. I think this will be his chance to shine and possibly open up his career for more roles like it. Break a leg Patton!~

  5. Amy says:

I have always like Patton Oswalt, and I cannot wait to see him as Eric Koenig.

  6. Dave says:

Oswalt would be a great MODOK If not MODOK maybe Mighty Mouse? Is that in this universe? It doesn’t actually have to be a mouse. They just put some big ears on him, give him super powers and here he comes to save the day.

  7. Alexandr says:

I’ve seen enough of Patton to know he can do serious well enough. Granted, his roles TYPICALLY have a comedic element to them, but they’re not 100% of their time spent focused on humor. He was on Caprica and Dollhouse in fairly non-comedic roles, and he was great in both, after all. And try watching season 4 of Justified without feeling something for the guy in the end.

  8. Tracy Quick says:

Will be interesting to see him play such a serious role. I just don’t see him pulling it off. But I’m looking forward to it.

  9. Lisa Carr says:

    Yayyyy!

  10. JPANIMATOR says:

If you read back into the Marvel Universe, Eric Koenig is one of the people, along with Nick Fury, who founded S.H.I.E.L.D… http://marvel.wikia.com/Eric_Koenig_(Earth-616)

Is it just me or wouldn’t Patton Oswalt make a great M.O.D.O.K.! Probably not where they’re going with this guest star role, but seeing the promo picture just got me thinking. Patton Oswalt as M.O.D.O.K., come on Marvel make this happen!
