Patton Oswalt Shreds a Guitar in the Oval Office for Weezer’s (NSFW) “I Love The USA” Video

Where can a nation, bitterly divided along partisan lines during an acrimonious presidential campaign, turn to find a sense of unity and hope? To Patton Oswalt, dressed like a flag that wished to be a real boy, shredding a red, white, and blue guitar in the Oval Office while lip-syncing a (NSFW) Weezer song, that’s where.

We first came across this new video for Weezer‘s song “I Love The USA” at Pitchfork, and it is American as an apple pie drinking a beer and mocking soccer. The video, directed by SCANTRON and No. 2 Pencil, features comedian Patton Oswalt (in his best cosplay of Diedrich Bader as the martial artist Rex from Napolean Dynamite) sneaking into the president’s office (man, the Secret Service really needs to get its act together) to rock out while singing how much he loves this country.

Weezer originally recorded the track as part of the celebration for NASA’s Juno mission reaching Jupiter’s orbit on Independence Day earlier this year (Murika!), and the song is included on the band’s new Deluxe Edition of their White Album.

Besides having lead singer Rivers Cuomo play one of the two inept Secret Service agents—one responsible for the end of the world—sharp-eyed Weezer fans will also recognize another touch of the band in the video: Cuomo’s lighting bolt guitar strap.

So yeah, maybe all of America isn’t entirely on the same page right now, but things aren’t hopeless. We can always rally around a guy dressed like Uncle Sam’s fever dream come to life, swearing in the White House about how great this country is, while playing the most patriotic guitar ever made.

That’s an American we can all get behind.

What did you think of this video? We’d love for you to tell us in the comments below.
