So just how big is Comic-Con now in terms of American culture? Well, the hit animated series My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic is getting a Comic-Con themed episode, so that should tell you something. To make this episode extra special, comedian Patton Oswalt is joining the cast for a new role, as “a quarrelsome pony” named Quibble Pants, in the mid-season premiere of My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic. The episode airs on Saturday, July 30 at 11:30a/10:30c on Discovery Family Channel. You can see a preview of Oswalt’s pony character Quibble Pants in the image below:
The Comic-Con themed episode will be entitled âStranger Than Fan Fiction,â and according the official synopsis, will find the ever-enthusiastic Rainbow Dash attending a convention for her favorite adventure hero Daring Do. At the Daring Do convention, Rainbow Dash will meet Quibble Pants, a pony who hates Daring Do as much as Rainbow Dash loves him. (this is a commentary on certain toxic elements of fan culture, right?) The two ponies then get wrapped up in a real life Daring Do adventure, and have to settle all their differences if they have any chance of surviving the convention.
Patton Oswalt’s episode will air a week after San Diego Comic-Con, where the cast and crew of the hit show are going to preview the rest of the series’ current sixth season, as well as the upcoming feature film, My Little Pony Equestria Girls: Legend of Everfree. The My Little Pony Comic-Con panel will take place on Friday, July 22 at 10:30 a.m. Right before the airing of the new episode, Discovery Family will air three episodes of the show voted on by fans as being the best-ever of the series. Starting on Monday, July 18, fans can vote on their favorite episodes through Discovery Familyâs website and help pick which three episodes will precede the mid-season premiere.
