With nods to fashion icons like Louis Vuitton, Prada and Moschino, the tongue in cheek art pieces are a reference to the idolatry of luxury items and culture’s obsession with excess and guilty pleasures. Indeed, a bag made of syrupy pancakes sounds like the best guilty pleasure of all time.

The carbtastic bags gained popularity when actress India Menuez carried the Bagel No. 5 purse to the premiere of the Chanel No. 5 film The One That I Want. The irony of the fake Chanel bagel bag becoming the talk of the town at Chanel’s own bash only feeds into the dynamic of the irreverent art pieces that Wise creates.
