PANDAS Get Their Own IMAX Movie Narrated by Kristen Bell

Mark your calendar with a panda face: Pandas, a Kristen Bell-narrated, Warner Bros.-produced documentary all about the titular bear, premieres in select IMAX and IMAX 3D theaters on April 6.

It’s about time pandas get their well-deserved turn in the spotlight. The aggressively adorable animals were the subject of an IMAX short, Pandas: The Journey Home, in 2014, but given that Pandas is a feature-length film, audiences will get to spend significantly more time with them. This isn’t co-directors David Douglas and Drew Fellman’s first animal-related rodeo; previously, they collaborated on IMAX shorts Island of Lemurs: Madagascar and Born to Be Wild.

If you’re not already sold on the concept of a G-rated movie about the cutest bears on the planet (you’re on notice, sun bears), what if I told you that sometimes panda cubs drink out of baby bottles, and you get to see it? Or that the star of the documentary, Qian Qian, learns the ways of wild bears after being taken out of captivity and into the (still-supervised) wild? Or that Mark Mothersbaugh wrote the score you hear while pandas make funny squeaking noises at the same time? Or that a man utters the sentence “I don’t teach bears to be bears; the knowledge is already inside them” in the trailer?

Look, if that’s not enough for you, I can’t fathom what will be. So I’m just going to assume it is and go ahead and change my desktop background to literally any screenshot from the trailer.

Which animal do you think deserves a documentary spotlight? Let us know in the comments!
