John Boyega Steps Up in the New PACIFIC RIM UPRISING Trailer

Legendary released a brand new, extended trailer for Pacific Rim Uprising today, and it’s definitely the most badass yet! The trailer not only gives us another awesome look at the Jaegers, but it also paints a better picture of what the world looks like after the events from Pacific Rim.

We finally get a glimpse into the life of Jake Pentecost (John Boyega), the son of the late Stacker Pentecost (Idris Elba). While many of the other trailers made Jake look like a hero and willing soldier from day one, the latest trailer shows us a young man who seems a bit lost at the start of the movie–even showing up in a jail cell. Jake doesn’t seem to interested in fulfilling any dreams his father had for him, even when Mako Mori tells him Stacker always wanted Jake to become a pilot. However, it seems that Jake does end up following his father’s legacy, and leading a new crop of soldiers against the renewed Kaiju threat. And he even gives his very own pep talk.

Another big question surrounding this film is how in the world did the Kaiju manage to get back to earth? The trailer touches on that as well, albeit briefly, explaining that in order for the monsters to return, they had to be let back in. In short, someone from earth decided it would be a good idea to leave the door open for the biggest, most destructive monsters we’ve ever seen. Probably not a great idea (okay, definitely not a good idea), but we’re excited to see how these new Jaeger pilots kick the ass of these bigger, badder Kaiju.

Luckily, you don’t have to wait too much longer to get your fill of monsters and mechs. Pacific Rim Uprising hits theaters on March 23. Be sure to tell us what you’re most excited to see in the sequel in the comments!
