This fall, Chris Pine is trading the futuristic setting of Star Trek and the superhero action of Wonder Woman for Netflix’s upcoming historical epic, Outlaw King. Pine will portray Robert the Bruce, the legendary King of Scotland who fought against England in the First War for Scottish Independence. In the first trailer from the film, Robert is forced to flee his home as the English invade and terrorize his family. Robert’s escape in this clip may have dire consequences for his loved ones. But as noted in the video, vengeance can be a powerful motivator.
If Outlaw King reminds you of Braveheart, it’s probably because it’s another side of the story that was told in that movie. Robert the Bruce is in the spotlight this time as he rallies his countrymen to stand up to King Edward I and his brutal occupation. Former Game of Thrones star Stephen Dillane is stepping into the role of King Edward I, while Aaron Taylor-Johnson is playing James Douglas. Florence Pugh is portraying Elizabeth de Burgh, Robert’s second wife.
Hell or High Water director David Mackenzie reunited with Pine for this film, and it looks like a tale worthy of the big screen. That’s probably why Netflix is giving Outlaw King a limited theatrical release as well, before releasing it worldwide on November 7.
