Undertaking and completing a great restoration is kind of like taking a trip back in time. So what could possibly be a more appropriate restoration project than fixing up a time machine, especially when that time machine is maybe the most iconic car in movie history? Yes, we’re talking about Outatime: Restoring the DeLorean from the Back to the Future Trilogy, and there’s even a new trailer for it.

As part of the massive 30th anniversary celebration taking place this month in honor of the original film’s release (as well as finally reaching “Back to the Future Day,” the date Marty and Doc travelled to in the second film, October 21st, 2015), the special new Blu-ray being released will include a 20-minute featurette about the efforts to save an important piece of cinematic history.

OUTATIME: Restoring the DeLorean is the work of filmmaker Steve Concotelli, who was given exclusive year-long access to the dedicated work of Bob Gale (co-writer of the movies), Universal Studios, and committed fans across the world as they tried to save Doc Brown’s beloved time machine from time, weather, and the picking apart of by fans.

“The DeLorean Time Machine is the greatest comeback story in movie prop history,” said Concotelli, who interviewed dozens of people involved with both the films and the restoration.

The team behind the project said they had one goal in mind: 100% accuracy. Joe Walser, head of the restoration project, said, ““It’s easy to make a time machine. It’s nearly impossible to do it right.”

For fans eager to learn more about the work done to save the beloved car, the featurette on the new Blu-ray is only the first release from Concotelli about the project. A longer, full-length documentary will be released sometime later this year, which will be titled OUTATIME: Saving the DeLorean Time Machine. October 21st is gearing up to be quite the day for Back to the Future fanatics. Not only will the special 30th anniversary Blu-ray from Universal Studios Home Entertainment include OUTATIME, it will also have a brand new short film titled, “Doc Brown Saves the World,” where Doc will explain why the future turned out so differently than the one he and Marty visited.

On top of that, another documentary will be released on October 21st, titled Back in Time, about the making of the films and their deep and lasting cultural impact. Pepsi also released a commercial this week about a limited time special edition product, Pepsi Perfect, like the one seen in Back to the Future Part II.

Another memorable scene from the second film got some special treatment this week with a trailer for Jaws 19, which was the holographic shark that scared a very confused Marty.

The only thing that seems left that could truly honor the movie this month is if the Chicago Cubs end their 106 year World Series drought by winning a championship (they did make the playoffs), just like Back to the Future Part 2 predicted. Oh, that, and someone gets me my freaking hoverboard in the next two weeks.
