ORPHAN BLACK’s Kristian Bruun Takes on a Cosplay Challenge at SDCC

One of our favorite things to do at San Diego Comic-Con (or any con, for that matter) witness the glory that is cosplay costumes. Between the impressive sewing skills, creative mash-ups, and hours of crafting it takes to create the perfect recreation of, say, an ewok or the Doctor or Harley Quinn or Cersei’s coronation outfit, there’s lots to appreciate and take in—to say nothing of the volume. Like Pokémon, it’s hard to catch them all. But we caught as many of them as we could when we sent our own Andrew Bowser and Orphan Black‘s Kristian Bruun (otherwise known as Donnie Hendrix!) out onto the con floor. Bowser and Bruun set out to take as many selfies as possible from a list of increasing random and/or rare cosplayed characters, and didn’t disappoint.

With Intern Eric at Bowser’s side (and Bruun’s own brand of peppy can-do-ness to sustain his one-man show), these two fellas embarked on the the epic selfie quest to find a veritable smorgasbord of fun cosplays. Want to know who won? You’re going to have to watch and find out, but—spoiler alert—it’s maybe not what you’d expect.

Here’s the list of cosplays the boys were tasked with finding. Did you see any of these floating around the con floor?

  • A Marvel character
  • A DC character
  • An Avenger
  • A Member of the Justice League of America
  • A Jedi
  • A Star Wars Villain
  • A sexy version of a traditionally non-sexy character
  • A Joker giving Batman a hug
  • A gender-swapped cosplay
  • Princess Leia
  • The Doctor (bonus points for more than one!)
  • An Overwatch character
  • A furry
  • George R.R. Martin
  • Cersei Lannister in her coronation gown
  • A Team Mystic Pokémon trainer

So…was Kristian the rightful victor with his GRRM selfie coup? Or was the title of King of the Con stolen from our fair Bowser on a technicality? Let’s discuss in the comments below!
