Original GHOSTBUSTERS Headed Back to Theaters This Summer

This summer, the Ghostbusters are headed back to movie screens across America. And no, I don’t just mean the new ladies taking on the job of keeping the streets of New York safe from supernatural pests — I mean the original, 1984 classic Ghostbusters is coming back to theaters as well.

According to EW, on June 8 —  which happens to be the thirty-second anniversary of Ghostbusters original release –Sony Pictures is teaming up with Fathom Events for a special screening of the beloved movie in AMC, Regal, and Cinemark theaters across the country. After that, the 750 screens will also be showing the film for a second night on June 12.

If you’re in the New York area, you have an even cooler option for your classic Ghostbusters sceening — there will be a three-night event planned in Williamsburg, Brooklyn by BBQ Films, with “immersive screenings” of Ghostbusters, in which a warehouse is going to be transformed into the original Ghostbusters headquarters. (We can neither confirm or deny if there will be a fire station pole).

The timing for this re-release is interesting, as it shows confidence in the new film from the studio. If Sony thought they had a turkey on their hands with the new remake, they probably wouldn’t agree to screen the original for audiences and remind them how perfect a movie that is. Because believe me — thirty-two years later, the original Ghostbusters remains a perfect movie.

If you’re looking forward to getting reacquainted with Peter Vankman, Ray Stantz, Egon Spendgler, Winston Zeddemore, and Dana Barrett Zuul, tickets for both events can be found here, at FathomEvents.com and BBQ Films.

Are you stoked for the return of the OG Ghostbusters to movie theaters? Excited for the new one a month later? Let us know your thoughts in the comments below.
