Original BATMAN Movies Get New Digital Covers

With the digital release of Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice this coming Tuesday, Warner Brothers has revamped the digital versions of the classic Batman movies from 1989-1997 with new covers. Reported on Batman-News.com, the new covers have a simpler visual take on the Tim Burton and Joel Schumacher versions of the Caped Crusader.

Here is the 1989 Batman, with Michael Keaton in the forefront and Jack Nicholson’s Joker lurking behind. The steampunk look of Burton’s Gotham looks great as a backdrop.

1992’s Batman Returns had more of a Tim Burton feel than its previous version. From the set design of Gotham to the music to the insane Penguin (Danny DeVito) and his gang, this film fits in well with the rest of his library. Here we see Keaton, DeVito, and Michelle Pfeiffer’s amazing Catwoman.

As ridiculous as Joel Schumacher’s Batman Forever was, I have a soft spot for the film. I’m a big Robin fan, so seeing him on the big screen for the first time since Burt Ward was cool. However, this cover poses a few questions. What’s Val Kilmer looking at? Where are the villains (Riddler and Two-Face)? Where’s Robin? Why isn’t there at least one shred of neon, since this movie had it EVERYWHERE?

Batman Forever

Batman and Robin, or as some people call it, “the movie George Clooney always apologizes for,” is the last entry here. Along with Clooney is Mr. Freeze, Arnold Schwarzenegger. Once again, no Robin, even though his name is in the title of the movie. Plus the background looks more like the Gotham of the Nolan universe rather than the camp of Schumacher.

Regardless of which of these movies you loved or even despised, every bat-completist should see them at least once to give yourself a full understand of Batman’s film evolution.

So what do you think? Which of these new covers is your favorite? Are you enticed to give Batman and Robin another try? Let me know on Twitter or sound off in the comments below.
