Tonight will tell us what happens when the dead rise, in the form of Cybermen of course, on the conclusion to the finale of Series 8 of Doctor Who. It was a bombshell of a revelation for the Doctor, Clara, and Danny at the end of episode 11, “Dark Water,” and episode 12 “Death in Heaven” looks to be even scarier. But the scariest part of all is that, now that the series is almost over, we won’t be getting anymore new movie poster artwork for each episode by the amazing artist Stuart Manning. He’s designed a new poster, in a psuedo-throwback pop art style, for each of the series’ episodes, and they’re all more glorious and striking than the last. Here’s a look at this week’s movie poster.
That’s a lovely bit of business there. I’ll still never get over how perfect it is for Missy (Michelle Gomez) to be like a perverse Mary Poppins. How helpful she is with her raising the dead in order to create a huge Cyber army and ushering consciousnesses back to a mainframe she lies and says is heaven, thus subverting many poor people’s idea of what the afterlife might actually be like. She’s swell.
Also below you’ll find a gallery of all of Manning’s posters. They’re all different and yet of a piece. Personal favorites would have to be “Listen” and “Mummy on the Orient Express.” Is there any way for all of these to be made into full sized things so I can hang them in my house? Y/Y?
Doctor Who “Death in Heaven” airs tonight on BBC America, and be sure to come back here afterwards for my review!
Where can I buy these prints? I would love to hang the death in heaven poster above my bed 🙂
Is there anywhere you can buy these as prints?
