Itâs hard to believe itâs been just over twenty years since True Romance was released. Arguably one of both Quentin Tarantino and Tony Scottâs best films, True Romance is a pulpy action romance that has become a âcultâ classic in every sense of the word. To celebrate the film, Odd City has recruited cinephile and artist Matt Ryan Tobin to create a limited edition print that sums up the visceral spirit of the movie.
Odd City releases limited edition, often film-inspired prints from artists, illustrators, and designers all over the world. The Austin-based company said of the piece, âMatt Ryan Tobinâs print is a testament to the philosophy of Clarence Worley, and words we here at Odd City, try to live by: Live fast, die young, and leave a good looking corpse!â
The print is as slickly stylized and glam as True Romance and its two leads, Clarence Worley (Christian Slater) and Alabama âIâm a call girl. Thereâs a difference.â Whitman (a deliciously charismatic Patricia Arquette). The film reel portraits along the borders of Tobin’s piece feature notable, unhinged characters from the movie, such as Alabama’s pimp Drexl (Gary Oldman), gangster Vincenzo Coccotti (Christopher Walken), Clarence’s father Clifford Worley (Dennis Hopper), and of course, Floyd (Brad Pitt). Tobinâs vibrant print truly encapsulates the bloodied beauty of Tarantino’s fun, violent romp.
Tobin himself is a True Romance fan: âThis movie is so vivid and colorful in its writing, characters and film style. I really wanted to give my all in complimenting the film, by approaching the artwork in the same way.â Mission accomplished, Tobin.
The 36″x24″ limited edition True Romance print is available in regular and variant styles, and will go on sale at the Odd City Entertainment store on Friday, February 7th.
