Nom Nom Nom: “Fictional Food” and “Happy Food” Exhibits at Gallery 1988

Is it wrong that we kind of want to eat this art? Gallery 1988, the eclectic art galleries in the heart of Melrose, is featuring two culinary-inspired exhibits at its East and West locations. Pop culture and food? Thank you, G1988 — you get us.

At the West location, artist Joshua Budich has taken some of our favorite fictional foods and created an eponymous exhibit, and we want to consume it allllll. From Willy Wonka’s mysterious Wonka Bar to Homer Simpson’s beloved Duff beer, “Fictional Foods” brings our favorite film and TV’s shows imaginative snacks to life. The Los Angeles gallery is also hosting an opening night reception Friday, May 22, 2015 (that’s tonight!) from 7-10pm PT to celebrate the occasion.

A hop, skip, and a jump down the street, G1988 East still has some prints available from its current, adorable exhibit, “Happy Foods.” Cuddly Rigor Mortis has taken a few of our most cherished tasty treats (waffles! cake! sno-cones!) and given them bright-eyed life. Prints are available on the Gallery 1988 website. (They’re a little costly, but still fun to look at.)

Check out a preview of the exhibits in the gallery below, and if you’re in the LA area, make sure you swing by and sample some of the galleries’ delectable designs!

G1988 (West) is located at 7308 Melrose Ave. and G1988 (East) is located just down the street at 7021 Melrose Ave.
