Nintendo Will Be Delving Into the World of VR

Rumors of what’s in store for us when the Nintendo NX hits stores in March 2017 have been swirling for a while now, and while we still don’t officially know any details about what features the new console will have, we do know one thing: Nintendo is researching how to bring VR to the NX. As IGN reports, Shigeru Miyamoto shared in a recent shareholders meeting that the company is wading into the waters of virtual reality to make sure Nintendo has, as he said, “the core technology.”

Of course VR isn’t without its issues, the two main issues being a high price point and not allowing for long play sessions. For a gaming console that which has kids as its primary audience, that could be a deal-breaker. Nintendo is hoping to overcome those challenges as they explore ways to bring VR to Nintendo gamers. The goal is to increase play time and lower the price of a system equipped with VR to appeal more largely to parents–as well as appeal to those of us adult gamers who are freaking out as we try to figure out how we’re going to afford any of these new VR gaming consoles.

Because Nintendo didn’t feature the NX at E3 this year, we really don’t have any more confirmed info on the NX. Miyamoto and the team at Nintendo wanted to make sure the console wasn’t launched too early, and therefore welcomed people to imitate the bells and whistles of the NX. So hopefully all of this secrecy means that the NX, whenever we get to know what it’s really all about, will truly be an amazing system.

What do you think of Nintendo incorporating VR? What would you like to see them try with the new NX? What don’t you want to see? Let’s talk about it in the comments!

What?! A Nintendo Cinematic Universe?!
