As video games become more and more popular and as more and more people try their hand at making them, there’s a bevy of games out there that ought to please just about everybody. Getting into playing games is easier than ever, but although it’s a relatively passive physical activity, playing all of the day’s hottest titles is still a real challenge for players who are only able to use one hand.
Rami Wehbe, a Nintendo fan with a cerebrovascular disease that cost him control of his right hand, sought an easier way to play The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on the Nintendo Switch. He approached his friend, engineer Julio Vazquez, with the problem, inspirig Vazquez to come up with a pretty ingenious solution: A Joy-Con adapter that makes it a lot easier to use both Joy-Cons with just one hand (via Eurogamer).
The adapter itself appears pretty simple: Slide both Joy-Cons into it and it turns them into a single controller that’s split down the middle at a right angle and seems to fit relatively comfortably in one hand. Vazquez posted a video demonstrating how well his creation functions while playing Breath of the Wild, and the results are definitely functional.
You can download design files to make an adapter of your own with a 3D printer or order a pre-made adapter here. In addition to being a big win for one-handed gamers, this adapter could also add an interesting new wrinkle for players who can use both hands and just want to try a one-handed gaming experience.
