Is the future of video games….cardboard? On today’s Nerdist News Talks Back we discussed our reaction to Nintendo’s Labo announcement, along with the new Tomb Raider trailer, and what we want from the Harry Potter RPG.
Host Jessica Chobot, Nerdist News writer Aliza Pearl, Mothership writer Amy Vorpahl, and Bizarre States’ Andrew Bowser started today’s show with their reaction to Nintendo Labo, which we did not see coming. Does this make the Switch a must-buy? Are we excited for this, or is this mostly for kids? Will it help them be more creative? Can the cardboard hold up to the wear and tear of game play? Is this just an attempt to get on the interactive bandwagon started by other systems? And what Labo kit do we hope to see?
We also got a new Tomb Raider trailer, so what did we think of it? Do we like the cast? What lore or detail from the game do we hope to see in it? Are they clearly hiding her amazing neck-stretching abilities? And do we think this will be the start of a franchise?
Finally, the wizarding world of Harry Potter is getting its own RPG, which will be set after Harry is born, but before he went to school. Are we excited to go to Hogwarts without him, Ron, and Hermione? Or are we waiting for that Pokémon Go style game? What other genre of game would be perfect for the franchise? Did we play any of the older games? And don’t forget, this month we’re discussing The Sorcerer’s Stone at Alpha Book Club this month at Project Alpha, so tune in to talk about the first novel with us.
Nerdist News Talks Back airs live every weekday at 1:00 p.m. PT on our YouTube and Alpha channels, where you can tune in and be a part of the discussion with us. It’s the best place to talk about exciting new video game developments like 70 dollar cardboard sets!
We still want to hear from you though, so talk back to us about today’s topics in the comments below.
