The cast for Warner Brothers’ upcoming big screen adaptation of DC Comics’ Wonder Woman might have just added a very prestigious new cast member. Reports are coming in that Oscar winner Nicole Kidman has joined the cast of the Amazing Amazon’s first solo film in an as-yet unknown role.
Although Kidman’s role isn’t confirmed, it’s probably a solid bet that she’ll be playing Hippolyta, Queen of the Amazons and Wonder Woman’s mother. For those who think that Kidman is too young to play a grown up Wonder Woman’s mother, I will remind you that the actress is 48, while Gal Gadot is 30. Plus, the Amazons are immortal, so none of them should really look all that old anyway. Of course, it’s possible that Kidman is playing another roleâpossibly Hera, Athena, or one of the other Greek Goddesses.
Wonder Woman is being directed by Patty Jenkins, best known for her film Monster, and is slated to begin production in January of next year in England. Kidman would join Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and Chris Pine as Steve Trevor, Princess Diana’s love interest. Wonder Woman will of course first appear in next year’s Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.
The villains of the movie have been rumored to be the Greek God of War Ares, traditionally Wonder Woman’s #1 nemesis, and the witch Circe. Recent rumors have suggested that Game of Thrones‘ Sean Bean would be playing the part of Ares, while Penny Dreadful star Eva Green is being considred for Circe.
In the meantime, here are a few updates about the film we’ve recently received, as told by our own Jessica Chobot:
Wonder Woman is set to hit theaters on June 23, 2017. Are you looking forward to it? Let us know in the comments.
