This morning, IDW announced that their next collaboration with 30 Days of Night artist Ben Templesmith will be the four-issue The Squidder, a serial version of Templesmith’s Kickstarter-backed graphic novel of the same name.
According to this morning’s press release, the post-apocalyptic book involves the last survivor of the Squidder Legions, an old soldier “from a forgotten war.” Apparently, the world has been taken over by some kind of Cthulhu-inspired menace, and it’s up to a suicidal weapon and a Squid Priestess to change the balance of power.
The book is a collaboration between IDW and Templesmith’s studio 44FLood, which is Templesmith (clearly) and writer-artists Menton3, Kasra Ghanbari and Nick Idell. Since their inception, they’ve launched The Squidder Kickstarter last year as well as Lust in 2012.
From IDW:
‘The Squidder is equal parts Mad Max, Cthulhu creatures, and everything I love about early 90s Dolph Lungren action films,’ said Ben Templesmith. ‘All of us at 44FLOOD are excited to be working with IDW to bring our projects into comic book shops and book stores. IDW has some of the best and most dedicated people in all of comics.’
Templesmith has returned to his roots to do the tentacle/Cthulhu-orientated book he’s always promised, and IDW is proud to release another stunning and original project with an artist so important to the foundations of the company.”
I’m already curious about the collected edition of The Squidder – IDW puts out some lovely hardcover and premium edition books, and I could easily see myself plunking down a couple of dollars for an oversized book featuring Templesmith’s art.
Currently, there’s no word on a release date for the first issue of The Squidder.
