New X-MEN Teaser Explains What Apocalypse Wants

We’re now a little over a month away from the release of X-Men: Apocalypse, the latest chapter in the film franchise that’s been around for 16 years. I, for one, am incredibly excited—especially because of how much the promos and trailers have been big-upping the titular villain (played by Oscar Isaac) and his Four Horsemen. In a brand new teaser for the film, which uses footage from the trailers and mixes in cast and director interviews, we get to see what Apocalypse is prepared to do… turns out, it involves apocalypse. Who knew?

The teaser explains that Apocalypse is not only the oldest mutant, but can amplify the powers of other mutants, which is why he’s chosen four incredibly powerful power-havers to be his Four Horsemen—Storm (Alexandra Shipp), Angel (Ben Hardy), Psylocke (Olivia Munn), and Magneto (Michael Fassbender). It’s this fourth Horsemen that really intrigues, because the Master of Magnetism has been the main baddie more times than he hasn’t, and to see him in a subservient position is something totally new.

While the footage may be stuff we’ve seen already, Apocalypse’s big speech about destroying the world and building a better one now features brand new voice modulation, which gives the ancient evil a timbre much more akin to how he sounded in the 1990s cartoon series, which means it’s closer to what everybody remembers. Surely this won’t be for the entire movie; director Bryan Singer has also stated that Apocalypse’s main power in the movie is the power of persuasion and a lot of that is conveyed in Isaac’s on-set performance. Can’t lose that, not for all the auto-tuning in the world!
