New Video Shows Everything Wrong with the WATCHMEN Movie

If you’re a fan of the Watchmen graphic novel, you probably had a pretty strong reaction to the film directed by Zack Snyder. It’s also likely that this reaction wasn’t exactly a positive one. The changed ending, the casting, the giant plot points that were missing from the film–though the opening sequence is considered a fantastic piece of film work, even the director’s cut got a lot of flack for its issues. Today we have a new video from CinemaSins giving us a 19 minute-long look at all the things that are wrong with the Watchmen film.

Most of the issues are legit, though things like starting with footage of issues in the Middle East isn’t exactly what we’d call a “movie sin.” It’s overused, sure, but it sort of fits. Anyway, on the pro side (the ones we agree with), that Nixon impersonator is just horrendous. It’s like he’s got a dollar store Halloween mask on! That grappling hook line about the height of it giving Batman penis envy is kind of brilliant. It’s true; there is a lot of giant blue ass and penis in this film. The whole thing about the Comedian being allowed in the group has always been an issue, right? There is no way they got all of those people on that tiny little ship. Also, thank you for talking about that god-awful version of “Hallelujah” during the big sex scene. Who let that happen? Who?

On the con side (the ones we don’t agree with), the criticism of the opening sequence has some good points, but honestly, that was the one part of the movie that most people liked. The joke about the discount Batcave–honestly, the parallels to the “real” world of superheroes is kind of the point. The whole issue with flashbacks and flash-fowards isn’t really that confusing, is it? The fact that we care about older superheroes isn’t that surprising if you’re a fan of the comics, though it is a little odd if you haven’t read them. Why did no one comment on how Matthew Goode was awful casting for Ozymandias? Also, how do you shoot Malin Ackerman that badly at the end of the film?

We want to know what you think. Tweet me/us @JennaBusch/@Nerdist and let us know what you think the worst sin is and what you think they got wrong. Does the possibility of an HBO series fill you with happiness or dread? Is it a mixture of both? We want to know!
