New Video Explores the Fate of DAREDEVIL’S Canceled Video Game

Marvel’s Daredevil has appeared in a handful of video games, but he’s never headlined his own title. 15 years ago, though, there actually was a Daredevil video game in development that predated the release of the first Spider-Man movie. It was quietly canceled in 2004 after a long and arduous development cycle.

In the latest episode of Liam Robertson’s Unseen64, the story of Daredevil’s first shot at video game glory was explored in-depth. As originally envisioned by developer 5000ft Inc, Daredevil would have been a standard third person action game that recreated several of the most famous moments from the comic book series including the fate of Elektra, and Daredevil’s confrontation with the Kingpin.

The project’s scope was greatly expanded with an original story that would have included a huge cast of characters from the comics, as Daredevil dealt with an underworld power vacuum created by the apparent death of the Kingpin. You’ll have to watch the video to discover why this Devil couldn’t escape from development hell. But it was definitely a missed opportunity from all involved.

Even with the technical limitations of the era, Daredevil’s signature radar sense was also going to be one of the key components of this game. This could have been a lot of fun, and it might still be a great game if Marvel makes another attempt somewhere down the line. Can you imagine a Daredevil VR game that literally lets you experience the title character’s hypersensitive senses and his unique way of seeing the world? If that’s too ambitious, we’d settle for a Daredevil game in an open world that allows players to explore Hell’s Kitchen and knock the hell out of some bad guys.
