Those of us who were not fans of the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie from a few years ago can mostly agree–mostly–that the best part of it was the turtles themselves and their personalities. There wasn’t enough of it in the movie, but they were on the right track at least. The second movie, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, is thankfully looking to double down on this by making the turtles more like everybody remembers, even going so far as to reintroduce them in the newest trailer. As if we’d forget! But thanks, Mikey!
Even though the movie is keeping the first entry’s trademark Michael Bay-produced action melange, it’s pretty clear it wants to capture the nostalgia of the original series and still make a movie kids today–who probably only know of the franchise from the current awesome Nickelodeon show–can appreciate. It’s kept April O’Neil (Megan Fox) and Vernon (Will Arnett) but added a real-life Shredder (Brian Tee), the sports warrior Casey Jones (Stephen Amell), Baxter Stockman (Tyler Perry), and everybody’s favorite oafish mutant henchmen, Bebop (Gary Anthony Williams) and Rocksteady (Stephen âSheamusâ Farrelly). Oh, and Krang. Though, we don’t get to see Krang in this new trailer at all.
What the trailer does highlight is the fun of the characters and how they’re having a great time while saving New York City/the whole wide world. Let us not forget, these are teenager after all. No reason for them to be all dour murder machines like other such franchises… Cowabunga and all that.
