New THEORY OF EVERYTHING Trailer is Another Beautiful Tearjerker, Stephen Hawking-Style

Oh, the frightfully exciting chills of hope the trailer for The Theory of Everything elicits. Even the trailers swell with a sort of transcendent joy and moving beauty rarely seen in a film’s precursor. (To say nothing of those glowing reviews from the Toronto International Film Festival.) If we’re coming across as a bit hyperbolic, it’s only because we just absolutely cannot wait for The Theory of Everything. It is one of our most anticipated films of the upcoming Oscar Bait-filled season. Because, ugh, doesn’t it just look like the most wonderfulest (oh shush on the “that’s not a real word!” front and let us have this) thing? Aren’t you looking forward — merely from the work of the trailer — to feeling all of the feelings and crying with bittersweet joy?

This film doesn’t just combine the things we love — space, the unknown, journeys filled with overcoming incredibly daunting obstacles — it has a look, feel, and sense of rooted honesty to it that looks to be very special.

Because the limits of our humanity are very real, but from those complications spring forth a heck of a lot of beauty and emotional storytelling. Eddie Redmayne and Felicity Jones star as Stephen Hawking and his first wife, Jane, as the duo embark not only on the journey of Stephen’s amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, but of overcoming the odds all the while unwrapping one of his most triumphant discoveries: the big bang theory. Y’know, how and why the universe exists? That whole thing.

Inspiring thing is inspiring, folks.
