New TEKKEN 7 Trailer Unveils Two New Characters

If there’s one thing that cannot be side-stepped in Tekken games, it’s Katsuhiro Harada’s madly over-the-top character designs. Tekken 6 featured a cape wearing rendition of Virtua Fighter’s Jackie Bryant with Lars Alexandersson, and a cyborg who detached her head as an offensive maneuver with Alisa Bosconovitch. The latest trailer for the next Tekken game features two brand spanking new characters–both of whom live up to the standards of the Tekken series we know and love. Here’s a look at the trailer right below:

Claudio enters the Tekken roster as yet another overly-fancy, lush-haired combatant, with the ability to shoot arrow projectiles at his opponents. He’s absolutely on the glam side of things, but it should be noted that he was macho enough to get a tattoo on his face–that automatically makes him a savage warrior that should be feared by all (right, Mike Tyson?). The new on brand femme fatale Katarina, who’s choice of attire is definitely within the realm of what’s to be expected from Katsuhiro Harada, appears to don a kickboxing fighting style that’s essentially a mix between those of Lee Chaolan and Bryan Fury. Both of the new characters do a little squaring off in the trailer above and look like they’ll be quite formidable in the fighting arena.

The trailer also showed off new and returning gameplay mechanics. Tekken 7 will be introducing an interesting new parry system, while bringing over the wall-smashing stage elements from Tekken 6. The game is set to hit arcades early next year and will release on PS3 and Xbox 360 later running on the Unreal 4 engine. Hopefully a next-gen version of the game is also in the works for sometime in the future.
