New Study Shows Ice Cream is the Key to Unlocking Your Super Powers

Peter Parker has his spider bite, the Ninja Turtles have their ooze, and now you have the catalyst for revealing your “super powers.” All you need is a mini fridge and a few dozen pints of your favorite Ben and Jerry’s.

Researchers at Kyorin University (in coordination with a large Japanese desert company) are announcing after a trial study that eating ice cream right after you wake up can aid in boosting your mental performance.

According to Rocket News 24, Kyorin University psychophysiology expert Yoshihiko Koga conducted the experiment where an ice cream-boosted group displayed increased alertness thanks to a gain in alpha wave activity in the occipital lobe. When gauged by a series of computerized tests, their reaction times and processing speeds were faster than the poor souls who didn’t get an early morning pick-me-up.

Before you get too excited, the researchers only gave the participants three spoonfuls of ice cream, so there’s no telling what eating the entire pint of Cherry Garcia might do to you first thing in the a.m.

The bad news for you would-be mutants out there is that they haven’t confirmed that a specific ingredient is causing the increased brain power, or even if it’s the ice cream itself: Koga retested using ice cold water (to account for the temperature) and ice cream still had greater benefits, but it may be the case that simply doing something you love (everybody loves ice cream) at the top of the day can create a similar effect.

The good news is that they haven’t confirmed that a specific ingredient is causing the increased brain power, which means you’ll have to do your own study using different ice cream flavors, popsicles, Star Wars logo cookies with blue milk, bacon tacos, Thanksgiving leftover sandwiches, and anything else your heart desires. Just remember: only three spoonfuls. Enjoy your new super powers.

Will you use them for good?
