Netflix’s corner of the Marvel Cinematic Universe currently has five series and an upcoming team up miniseries, The Defenders. But if you were hoping for more Daredevil and Jessica Jones in 2017, then you’re just gonna have to wait.
ScreenCrush noted a tweet from Entertainment Weekly‘s Natalie Abrams TCA report that Jessica Jones season 2 and Daredevil season 3 won’t hit until 2018, with The Punisher slated to make his solo debut after the two veteran shows return.
Marvel/Netflix sked: Luke Cage, Iron Fist, Defenders THEN 2nd and 3rd seasons of the other shows and Punisher.

Jessica Jones is going first because its second season has been in the works longer than Daredevil‘s third season and it’s already scheduled to begin filming after The Defenders wraps. Daredevil lost its showrunners, Doug Petrie and Marco Ramirez to The Defenders, so that series will either need a new showrunner or else it will be on hold until Petrie and Ramirez finish the miniseries.
Both Daredevil and Jessica Jones will have starring roles in The Defenders, alongside Luke Cage and Iron Fist. Luke Cage‘s first season will debut on September 30, while Iron Fist is expected to premiere in early 2017 before The Defenders drops later that year. There’s no indication yet whether Luke Cage or Iron Fist will be renewed, but we wouldn’t bet against either show. If anything, we expect Netflix to continue its expansion of the MCU’s grittier corners before bringing everyone back together for another Defenders miniseries. That’s just speculation at this point, but it’s probably a safe bet and it would continue to emulate the formula of the big screen MCU heroes.
