New RESIDENT EVIL Property Being Trademarked in Europe And Japan

It seems Capcom is looking to move forward on a new addition to their Resident Evil series. A trademark has been filed in Japan, as well as Europe, for a property under the name Resident Evil: Umbrella Corps., and we can only speculate on what the title may be. After the successful launch of Resident Evil HD on current consoles, many would have assumed Capcom would be content with continuing on that path. However, a title alone does not explain what exactly Capcom is planning to make.

The Resident Evil franchise, or Biohazard for those in Japan, has extended to all sorts of media ever since the original game released almost twenty years ago. In addition to the video game series, the franchise has also spawned numerous books, movies, comic books, animated films, and mobile games as well. Umbrella Corps. could truly turn out to be any one of these things.

In fact, production is set to start on a sixth and final film in the Resident Evil series next month, and its current title, Resident Evil: The Final Chapter, has been seen as a place-holder for whatever the actual name may end up being. The series sees Mila Jovavich’s character, Alice, battling against the evil and extensive Umbrella Corporation, who has not only created both the T and G Viruses, but have also been working on cloning technology. It seems that they are constantly trying to build their own clone army in order to maintain control over what little is left of the planet, and Umbrella Corps. could mean they have finally achieved that goal. Guess we will just have to wait for more news of this to come our way from Capcom at some point.

What do you think Umbrella Corps. may end up being? Let us know in the comments below.
