New ONCE UPON A TIME Graphic Novel Will Explore The Pasts of Hook, Regina, & More

If you’ve been longing for more Once Upon a Time stories that explore the past, hold onto your flying carpet and take a deep breath because Marvel Entertainment and ABC Studios have announced a brand new graphic novel titled Once Upon a Time: Out of the Past. As the title suggests, the anthology puts the emphasis on the life of certain characters before they ended up in Storybrooke. They’ve chosen the best possible subjects for the stories: the Evil Queen/Regina (by the way, Marvel’s first Once Upon a Time graphic novel focused on her), Captain Hook/Killian Jones, Rumplestiltskin and Belle, and the Mad Hatter/Jefferson. Cue squealing with glee.

The tales within the 112-page Out of the Past are origin stories, but it doesn’t sound like anything that’s been covered in the television series. Not exactly, anyway. Regina will be facing down demons from her past in the Enchanted Forest. Jefferson will lose something or someone in Wonderland that makes him stop using his portal-jumping hat. Killian Jones is aboard the Jolly Roger investigating the Leviathan Shoals. Rumplestiltskin and Belle are falling for each other. Given the current status of Rumple and Belle in the show, I’m looking forward to going back to a happier time. Well, it’s happy if you look past the fact that Rumple forced Belle to be his servant.

As excited as I am about the stories, I might be more pumped about the creative team. Writers Kalinda Vazquez and Corinna Bechko will pen the stories, and pencillers Janet Lee, Pascal Campion, Vanesa Del Rey, and Betsy Peterschmidt are on board for the art. Stacey Lee’s work is featured on the cover.

Once Upon a Time: Out of the Past will be available on Wednesday, April 1st. Will you be buying it? Let us know in the comments.
